The Testament of Ann Lee is coming out in theaters around the USA
Br Arnold's Comments about the movie
Trailer and more from Marc A. Rhorer, Florida Atlantic University:
The film was displayed in limited release in late December to be eligible for the Academy Awards, but the full wide release date is January 23rd.
The trailer is intriguing. We must remember that this is fiction, based somewhat on facts, as nearly all screenplays about historical characters are. It will be interesting to see how they portray Mother Ann and the early believers. Much of the trailer appears to depict events in England, then on the Mariah during the journey, so it is not all set after the Atlantic crossing. In the trailer, there appear to be men traveling with her (James Whittaker, William Lee, and/or Richard Hocknell, perhaps?).
There has been speculation about Amanda Seyfried (Ann Lee) receiving a Best Actress nomination, but it would be a long shot.
I thought you'd find the preview interesting...

from the Director and Actress on the film and their production process and depictions of Ann Lee
One other thing... this film is a musical.
Here is a longer "behind the scenes" piece on the making of the movie, production, choreography of Shaker dance, etc..
I haven't watched it yet, but I wanted to pass it along as well.
Sept 1, 2025 - A musical movie about Mother Ann
(Some interesting commentary at the end of the article.)
