I am a retired professor of history, having taught for my whole career at the University of Cincinnati. My original focus was on 20th century Europe, especially fascism and communism. Among my publications was Red Conspirator, a biography of a Hungarian born member of the American Communist Party who organized underground and conspiratorial activities. Since retiring I have turned to Shaker history and have written several articles and co-edited a history of White Water Shaker Village. My latest book, The Last Shaker Apostate, appeared early in 2018. I have presented papers at the Shaker Seminar and at conferences of the Communal Studies Association.
